The most listed occupation is specialist medical practitioners (SOC 2212), with 584. Salary rules are national: generally £41,700 or the going rate, if higher. NHS trusts and private healthcare providers are the largest group of licensed sponsors in the UK, and most clinical occupations are on the Skilled Worker eligible list, many of them under the Health and Care Worker visa route with lower fees and no immigration health surcharge. Registration with the relevant professional body (NMC, GMC, HCPC) is usually required before an offer can be made.
NHS trusts in England, the health boards of NHS Scotland and NHS Wales and the Health and Social Care trusts of Northern Ireland hold sponsor licences almost without exception, and so do the private hospital groups, hospices, GP federations, diagnostic providers and ambulance services that work alongside them. The listings on this page are at employers whose registered names match the Home Office register of licensed sponsors. Most of them arrive straight from NHS Jobs, so the advert text, the pay band and the closing date are the employer's own.
The occupation codes behind this hub are the registered nurse family (SOC 2231 to 2237, from midwives to mental health and children's nurses), generalist and specialist medical practitioners (2211 and 2212), the therapy professions led by physiotherapists (2221), occupational therapists (2222) and speech and language therapists (2223), the other health professions including pharmacists (2251), radiographers (2254), paramedics (2255) and podiatrists (2256), and nursing auxiliaries and assistants (6131). Each code has its own going rate published by the Home Office. Where that rate is higher than the general threshold of £41,700, the going rate is the bar an advertised salary is compared with.
Most of these codes are on the list for the Health and Care Worker visa, a version of the Skilled Worker route for people employed by the NHS, an NHS supplier or an adult social care provider. It carries a lower application fee and exemption from the immigration health surcharge, and posts paid on a national pay scale are assessed against that scale rather than the standard figure. GOV.UK publishes the eligible occupation list and the current fees; the employer confirms which route and which code it will use on the Certificate of Sponsorship.
Pay for nurses, allied health professionals and support staff in England follows Agenda for Change. In 2026/27 a newly registered nurse at Band 5 is paid £32,073 to £39,043; Band 6 runs from £39,959 to £48,117 and Band 7 from £49,387 to £56,515. Healthcare assistants sit at Bands 2 and 3, from £25,272 to £27,476. Doctors and dentists are paid on separate national scales. NHS Scotland, NHS Wales and HSC Northern Ireland publish their own versions of the bands, and London posts attract a high cost area supplement on top of the national figure.
Clinical posts need registration with the UK regulator before a start date can be agreed: the Nursing and Midwifery Council for nurses and midwives, the General Medical Council for doctors, the General Dental Council for dentists, the General Pharmaceutical Council for pharmacists and the Health and Care Professions Council for physiotherapists, radiographers, paramedics and the other allied professions. Nurses trained outside the UK sit the NMC test of competence; doctors need GMC registration with a licence to practise. Many adverts say whether the trust supports candidates through that process.

Before relying on an advert, confirm with the recruiting trust which occupation code it would use, whether the post is open to a Certificate of Sponsorship, and whether the advertised band includes any supplement.
