What is the Immigration Salary List?

The Immigration Salary List identifies occupations where the UK government sets specific salary requirements under the Skilled Worker visa route. It replaced the broader Shortage Occupation List in 2024 as part of immigration rule changes. Employers sponsoring workers in listed occupations must still hold a valid sponsor licence and assign a Certificate of Sponsorship for an eligible role. Being on the list does not remove other eligibility requirements such as English language, maintenance funds, or criminality checks. The list is maintained through the Home Office immigration rules appendix and may change when policy updates are published.

How the salary thresholds work

For most Skilled Worker applications, the salary must meet the higher of the occupation going rate or the general threshold. New entrants may qualify for reduced thresholds where permitted. Going rates are occupation-specific figures published alongside SOC codes. When no going rate is published, the general threshold applies. Use our salary calculator to compare a job offer against the applicable figures.

The Immigration Salary List (formerly the Shortage Occupation List) identifies occupations where the UK government applies specific salary rules under the Skilled Worker route. It is updated via the Home Office immigration rules appendix.
